AnimeJapan2016 “Sound! Euphonium the movie” Special Event Report: Latest Video And Mini-Concert!
The AnimeJapan 2016 expo was held this past March 26th and 27th at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center.
An event featuring the movie version of “Sound! Euphonium”, set for release this coming April, was held on March 26th at the expo’s Red Stage.
The event featured a mini concert, a talk show with the cast members, and the latest videos from the theatrical version.
The show opened with a live performance of the TV anime’s opening theme song “DREAM SOLISTER” by TRUE.
After the mini concert got the crowd hyped up, Takahiro Sakurai, who plays the character Noboru Taki, took to the stage as master of ceremonies.
He was followed by the main cast: Tomoyo Kurosawa (who plays Kumiko Ohmae), Ayaka Asai (Hazuki Kato), Moe Toyota (Sapphire Kawashima), Chika Anzai (Reina Kousaka), Minako Kotobuki (Asuka Tanaka), and finally Saori Hayami (Haruka Ogasawara).
The TV anime’s title song “DREAM SOLISTER” continues on as the title track for the movie version, however, it was revealed that the song will be re-arranged for the occasion.
TRUE spoke about the recording process, and the experiences of directing the wind ensemble and recording in a single take.
Following this, the two latest film clips were unveiled.
The first of the two was the latest theatrical trailer.
Watching this, the cast recalled an episode from a recent recording session.
A rare occurrence in movie adaptations, the cast re-recorded all their lines for this version.
“Even though it’s the same lines, and the same story, in a movie setting it’s different.” said Sakurai.
Kurosawa added: “In the television version, Kumiko and Reina both devote themselves fiercely to the music. In the movie version we get the impression that Kumiko is being pulled along a little bit, and so the dynamic between the two of them changes.”
Next, a full-version cutscene of the brass band playing “Rydeen” was screened. It was an early showing exclusively for AnimeJapan. The audience was treated to a beautiful scene of the band students coming together to play as a group.
During a segment where the cast asked each other questions, Anzai asked everyone what they thought of Reina.
Some said she was very hot-blooded, and others said she was a very dedicated character, but the audience erupted when Sakurai said “I like her!”
In the final announcements segment of the event, the mascot Tuba-kun strolled onstage carrying a promotional poster for the theatrical release, to the crowd’s delight.
The event concluded with roaring applause from 1600 Euphonium-loving fans.
The theatrical release of “Sound! Euphonium”, originally produced only in print, promises to deliver superb music and the feeling of being at a live performance. Don’t miss your chance to see it!
