It is a fact that the majority of anime in Japan are based on manga. The manga that are chosen for anime adaptations are usually ones that are topics of conversation, as they are best-selling or have wonderful storytelling.
When a manga gets adapted into anime, they become known by a wider audience. Therefore, there are many Japanese people who hope for their favorite manga to get adapted into anime.
Today, I would like to introduce to you some Japanese manga series that are currently gaining popularity but have not yet gotten an anime adaptation.
Hinomaru Zumo is a manga which is currently being serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump. It is categorized as a sports manga, but what’s fascinating about this series is that it features sumo wrestling, a very rare topic for manga.
Although sumo wrestling may be an unfamiliar sport for many people, the manga follows a storyline similar to other sports titles. It is a story about the protagonist joining the weak sumo wrestling club in school, and how he grows stronger with his team members while fighting his rivals.
Many people believed that it would be very difficult to write about a traditional Japanese sport in a manga magazine for young boys. Therefore, many readers first believed that the manga’s serialization would be cut short. However, despite such assumptions, the author succeeded in illustrating the charms and power of sumo wrestling with the exciting storyline unique to Jump manga. In no time, the manga grabbed the hearts of many readers.
Sports manga serialized in Jump tend to get anime adaptations quickly, so it would be no surprise if Hinomaru Zumo were to show up on TV soon!
I’m sure many people living overseas are interested in sumo wrestling, so if Hinomaru Zumo gets animated, it will definitely gather a lot of attention!
Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi)
In recent years, there has been a ‘gourmet manga boom’ in Japan and quite a few manga which feature food and restaurants have been published. Out of those gourmet manga, Delicious in Dungeon is one of the most sensational series that has gained popularity among otaku!
The manga first seems like a story in an RPG (Role-Playing Game) where the characters go on an adventure, but it actually is about eating monsters! In most games, the story ends when you defeat the monster, but Delicious in Dungeon goes a step further, and cooks those monsters! This creative idea has surprised many readers.
In fact, the manga has won many awards in Japan, and it is one of the most famous manga currently being serialized in Japan!
There are many Japanese readers who strongly hope for this unique and sensational story to become animated. Therefore, although it may not get animated right away, I assume that Delicious in Dungeon will get an anime adaptation some day! I hope this entertaining story about adventures and cooking becomes popular among anime fans all around the world!
Nietzsche-Sensei (Mr. Nietzsche)
Nietzsche-Sensei (Mr Nietzsche in a Convenience Store) is a manga which originally started on Twitter, and gathered so much fame via word of mouth that it even got adapted into a live-action drama.
The manga is a daily-life comical story about a boy nicknamed ‘Nietzsche-Sensei’ who works at a convenience store, and how he spends his part-time job life with his surrounding peers. It is a comedy manga, but it also includes scenes of everyday life that everyone will empathize with and think, ‘Yeah, that happens a lot.’ In a sense, it is a manga where the reader gets to enjoy learning about life in Japan.
Nietzsche-Sensei is especially popular among Japanese girls, and in a recent survey asking ‘Which Ongoing Manga Do You Want to Get Turned Into an Anime?’, it ranked third, with the majority of votes cast by girls.
Since it has already been adapted into a TV drama and has become well known by the public, we can hope for it to become animated soon!
Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken (Regarding Reincarnated to Slime)
Although the original work of this story is a light novel, Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken has already been adapted into a manga, so I have decided to introduce it to you anyway.
It is one of the most popular manga categorized under the theme of ‘Isekai Tensei (Reincarnation into Another World)’, a genre that has gained increasing popularity within the country in recent years. In this same genre, there are other works that have gotten anime adaptations such as Re:Zero kara Hajimaru Isekai Seikatsu (Re:Zero Starting Life in Another World) and Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (KonoSuba: God’s Blessings on this Wonderful World!), which have both have gained extreme popularity among fans living overseas.
The story is about an ordinary boy who does not stand out in the real world, but becomes reincarnated as a slime in another world and goes on adventures.
The manga is highly rated in Japan, especially among young people, and has gained many fans. The round visual of the slime is very cute! The unique setting of the story and the lovable visual of the character are two important aspects which lead the manga to become a big-hit.
If the manga gets an anime adaptation, not only will it gather a lot of public attention, but can also succeed in selling official character goods, making the best use of the slime’s cute visual.
I think it has a high possibility of getting an anime adaptation soon! It may even be sometime during next year!
