World Cosplay Summit 2016, with 30 countries and regions participating, it’s the greatest in scale of all time. India, Canada, Switzerland, and Sweden being first time participants.
The first World Cosplay Summit started in Aichi Prefecture in 2013 and this year marks the 14th Summit. Year-by-year the scale slowly expanded, becoming a place revered to by the world’s cosplayers, to finally becoming the big event it is today.
May 15th at the Tokyo Roppongi Nikofare, the World Cosplay Summit 2016 recital was held. There, the World Cosplay Summit Executive Committee revealed the 2016 policies one after another. The most being paid attention to by the cosplay fans isn’t just the World Championship but also the time period, jostling of cosplay fans, mingling, as well as cultural exchanges.
As expected, the world’s number one cosplay championship is definitely the most hyped about matter. This year’s participating countries and regions eventually reached 30. Newly participating countries include India from South Asia, Canada from North America, and lastly, Switzerland and Sweden from Europe.
Asia, Europe, Middle East, North Central and South America, Oceania; it’s enough to feel the worldwide popularity cosplay currently holds.
The championship will be expanded and held for two days; August 6th and 7th. Participating teams will be split into two, 30 teams will be wrung down to 16, and ultimately the champion will be decided.
The venue will be at the Aichi Arts Center Concert Hall. Furthermore, on the second day, the designs will be broadcasted in Oasis 21 and be available for live viewing.
Numerous fans also plan to participate. The Love Cosplay 2016 will be at the Laguna Ten Bosch on July 30th and 31st, Meiji-Mura exclusive Meiji-Mura Cosplay will be on August 2nd, while on August 5th, BRASS Presents exclusively uses the wedding hall for the entire charter party and shooting! continued in Bleu Leman, Nagoya.
On August 6th and 7th, even in the main venue Oasis 21, cosplay is practicable. This year, the venue area as well as the cosplay dressing rooms are being expanded. In addition, a special lounge is to be installed, aiming for a comfortable cosplay environment.
