The upcoming Summer 2017 anime 18if, an adaptation of the popular smartphone game 18 Kimi to Tsunagaru Puzzle that has racked up over 2 million downloads, released the broadcast date, a new teaser trailer and the opening theme song.
Comments from General Director Kouji Morimoto and the OP theme artists
‘We created the theme song in secret while communicating with General Director Morimoto. 18if has expressions that get to your core and touch on the taboo, so it’s exciting every time. A red door allows you to come and go between reality and the dream world. While being conscious of the this story which progresses using these red doors, I made the song with the image of myself opening a new door. I approached it with a technique that was different to Mera’s previous works. I think we managed to created a song that makes you wonder what is beyond the doors and makes you feel that anxiety and hope. When watching the TV anime 18if please pay attention to the music as well!’
‘It’s been a really long time since I sang the theme song for an animated work so I was really fired up. I sang the ultra-fine music in my own way. I would be glad if my vocals draw near to the music without destroying the anime’s world. TeddyLoid and Director Morimoto attended the recording sessions and I felt the their enthusiasm towards the anime. Using my falsetto and my head voice, I expressed the coming and going between the two worlds. Through TeddyLoid’s modern editing skills, a door that was unknown to me will be opened and I am very excited.’
‘I am very honored to be providing the lyrics for the amazing collaboration between Yoshikazu Mera and TeddyLoid. I was very excited to think about what kind of words to put with the world of music created by the two of them. Two worlds appear in 18if. Aiming for the feeling of floating between consciousness and unconsciousness, I made an incoherent collage of emotion and the lack thereof. Mera’s unique vocals are God’s voice and our conscious. I would be happy if you could feel the message and questions thrown at you by this anime in this once opening song.’
General Director Kouji Morimoto comment
‘I said, “I would like you to create an anime world that has more mysterious and dangerous feeling than other anime and has the feeling of coming and going.” I am very excited to the see the finished product from the collaboration between Mera’s voice and the music. In the same way that Teddy and Mera produced mysterious music, I want to create mysterious anime in cooperation with various directors so please look forward to it!’

Taking advantage of my school days, where I spent a lot of my free time with music and anime, I look for new content and want to expose the fun side of Japan’s Otaku culture.
My favorite anime is Gurren Lagann!
