The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will start a project that will support the overseas expansion of anime-related businesses in Japan. The project will be available to all interested companies in the anime industry. A presentation will be held at the Metropolitan Government Office and TKP Garden City PREMIUM Akihabara from February 15 to March 10.
The government aims for the anime industry’s further development and overseas expansion. To try and achieve this goal, it will support anime-related companies that are trying to establish operations outside of Japan. For this project, the government has announced that it will carry out the ‘MIFA2017 Exhibition Support Program’ and the new ‘Overseas Expansion Step-up Program’.
MIFA2017 Exhibition Support Program is a project under MIF (Marche international du film d’animation), the international trade fair which was established together with Annecy International Animated Film Festival (Festival International du Film d’Animation d’Annecy) in France. This program will support an exhibition at the trade fair to bring business’s closer. The Overseas Expansion Step-up Program will provide support in acquiring methods and skills for overseas expansion. The program will include business seminars and workshops. There will be a pitch contest in February 2018, and the government will choose three companies to support their MIFA 2018 exhibition.
The seminar participants must be small and medium-sized enterprises which produce anime and are registered in Tokyo (Based on the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Basic Act, this shall exclude companies in which large enterprises take part in the management). Also, individual proprietors who have notified their business openings (or will notify by the end of the current fiscal year) to the taxation office in Tokyo are also allowed to participate.
To join the seminar, you first need to apply in advance. You must download the ‘Setsumeikai Sanka Moushikomisho.pdf (Seminar Application Form.pdf)’, fill in the sheet, and send it via fax (03-5388-1465). The deadline is two hours before the seminar you want to attend. For more information, please check Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s official website.
There will be seven seminars in total from February 15 to March 10. All seven seminars will include the same content. You must attend one of the seminars in order to apply for the MIFA2017 Exhibition Support Program.
