The Japan Animator Expo, created by Shin Godzilla‘s Hideaki Anno, is helping many young creators to show their work. Each week, the site is streaming short animated pieces, and the short anime The Dragon Dentist was the first of the bunch.
Hideaki Anno was credited as the sound director, along with many other notable staff that worked for titles such as Neon Genesis Evangelion.
The 8-minute short is now going to be adapted into two 45-minute movies. Director Tsurumaki’s work has enthusiastic characters and a charming story that develops in leaps and bounds!
In that country, there are dragons…. According to legend, the people of old would make contracts with the dragons to save each other.
The story takes place in Dragon Country. Nonoko is a new dentist whose mission is to protect the dragons, the guardian of the country, from tooth-cavity bacteria. One day, amid increasingly fierce battles with the neighboring country, Nonoko finds on a dragon’s tooth an unconscious boy soldier from the enemy country. His name is Bell, and he has been resurrected from inside the tooth by the dragon—a supernatural phenomenon that legend says occurs before a major disaster. As Nonoko and Bell go through a series of fierce battles, they eventually learn to accept their fate.
This fantasy adventure, created on an unprecedentedly epic scale, will keep viewers thrilled and enraptured.
