The words which Jun Naruse used when she was small destroyed her family bond. She tends to have a stomach-ache, when she tries to speak. When she was in her 2nd year of high-school, she was appointed as a member of an executive committee of the “local close relationship exchange”. The other members were Takumi Sakagami, Daiki Tazaki and Natsuki Nitoo. If this hadn’t happened, those 4 people wouldn’t have got together. But, while they prepared for the “Musical” for the exchange meeting, their hearts started to communicate—-.

I can confidently say that “I was involved with a great production” (Minase)
It was a big hit which earned 1.12 billion yen. “The Anthem of the Heart” was all the talk in 2015 with a great adulation. What do you think now, when you look back?
I broke the kusudama, (the paper balloon which contains a lot of confetti and they come down when it was burst.) at the commemoration of exceeding 1 billion yen on November 1st at the TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku at my last stage speech! It was the first time in my life.
Yes, I agree. We don’t have many chances to break a kusudama, do we?
I congratulated the director, Tatsuyuki Nagai on the spot. When I saw the director, Mr. Nagai who was talking on the stage happily, I was also pleased that I was involved with the work which had been loved by so many people.
I’m delighted to know that the work that I would also like as a fan reached so many people’s hearts.
Have your feelings about this work changed after the public release?
I was under pressure at first. The tension was much stronger than I had expected. But when I finished dubbing the film, those feelings disappeared and I confidently thought, “I was involved with a wonderful work”.
I had been hoping that the feeling of Natsuki Nitoo who I performed would reach everyone’s hearts. I felt responsibility and anxiety. I didn’t have any worries towards the work at all. When I watched the finished work, I wanted to shout. I was one of those who were moved. I hoped it would affect many people’s hearts. So, I was delighted to know that the work has attracted so many people.
Who do you think is the most similar to you among Takumi Sakagami, Jun Naruse, DaikiTazaki and Natsuki Nitoo?
Well….. I might be Takumi. I don’t have as much enthusiasm as Daiki, but I still have my thoughts. I am between Jun and Takumi.
It’s difficult to say…. I’m annoyed or moved by various feelings, but I might be similar to Jun since I can’t convey those feelings well. But other people said that I am really “Natsuki herself”. (laugh)
At the audition, I was asked to perform “Natsuki” (Amamiya)
How did the audition go?
We had the tape-audition first. Then we had the studio-audition. Even though I read the script or the lines, I had no idea how to perform as Jun. I just tried to express Jun’s feelings that “when I talk, I have a stomach-ache”. I was confused whether my performance was right or not, then I sang and I left the audition hall. I didn’t have any confidence, but I was excited, thinking “This film will be open to the public. I can’t wait!”
How was Ms. Amamiya?
Actually, I had an audition as “Jun” first. But after performing as “Jun”, at the audition studio, I was told to perform as “Natsuki” as well. So, I read the script and the lines on the spot and then I performed as “Natsuki”. When I look back, it might have been good that I could perform my impression of “Natsuki” straight away.
What did you think about the completed work, when you watched it after dubbing?
I learned a lot through the conversation with Mr. Uchiyama (Koki) as Takumi. Mr. Uchiyama performed as if he himself was talking. I think I performed well in that illuminating conversation.
When you, Ms. Amamiya performed as “Natsuki”, what were you conscious about?
Natsuki is a first-rate student. I think many girls would have a crush on her. She supresses her own feelings, thinking of others. I thought she didn’t do it on purpose, but naturally. So, I performed as “Natsuki” without cleverness. In the last part, there was a scene when Natsuki vented her feelings towards Takumi, but I performed not to be hysterical. My image of Natsuki is “a girl with a manly spirit”, keeping “the first-rate student” and not showing her feminine side.
The site of the dubbing looked like a real high-school.
The musical scene in this work is also impressive. How did the recording of the songs go?
After finishing all the performing of the lines, we were called one by one.(laugh)
We disappeared one by one.
We were all waiting, and then someone was called saying, “So and so, come in!”
People who had finished singing went home, so the rest of us became more and more nervous.
I think all of you shared the atmosphere of the work while you were dubbing.
I had a change in my consciousness. Everybody was performing very naturally just like real high-school students. Therefore, I wanted to perform naturally as well. I recognized the atmosphere of the work, while I was in the studio.
Yes, everyone performed extremely naturally, didn’t they? Ms. Amamiya’s voice was the same as Natsuki’s voice. Everyone stuck to their voice. That made me feel comfortable.
When we had our lunch during the break, I remembered my lunch break at school which was just like that. The time of our conversation also related to the work and it was very fresh and enjoyable.
“The Anthem of the Heart” which was written about the moment which doesn’t go well is one that every high-school student has experienced.
In this story, the human relationship changes as the story goes on. How did you watch the latter half until the climax?
I thought that this is a scenario by Mr. Okada, but it must happen in real life as well.
Not only in love, but in any kind of human relationship. “It’s definitely all right“ can be a let down in the end. This story develops nicely to expand this kind of imagination in one’s mind.
The story described a lot of difficulties of high-school students. It is a realistic youth experience rather than a radiant one. They worry a lot and they are unrefined with their difficulties. But they are not unhappy. It contains the difficulties during the high-school student’s time, the uncertainty of what will happen next and how desperately they struggle with their lives and it was very touching.
What did you think about the description of fathers and mothers?
I thought it was very realistic. They became fathers or mothers, growing in age, but they are all the same as human-beings.
From the children’s side, their fathers and mothers look as if they are successful human-beings. But they also have their problems and sometimes they get hurt. The different threads of humanity with high-school students were described. Every human has frailties.
Conveying the words, conveying the theme of a work is related to the job of a voice actress. Please tell us the part in which you believe that you could convey the message very well.
The scene that Natsuki suppressed her own feelings and said, “I’ll support you.” with her smile was appreciated. That was the scene which I performed for Natsuki’s growing feelings through her experiences and a lot of irritation with a tense whisper. As it was a scene which especially expressed Natsuki’s feelings. I was glad that I could have carried it off.
During the dubbing, I think I have forgotten my, Inori Minase’s presence, I completely became Jun Naruse. When I watched the finished film, there was a scene which made me think, “Why did I generate that voice?” It was probably that I performed without thinking and with my natural feelings. I felt that I had a great experience I never had before.
Could we hear Jun’s singing!?
Thank you very much. Finally, please give us your message to your fans along with the release of the package.
This is a work which describes the characters’ deeds or expressions in detail. Each expression has its meaning. You may find new discoveries, when you watch it over and over again.
I’d like you to watch it to get to know the story of “The Anthem of the Heart” at the first watch and then I want you to focus towards each character next.
If you keep the work at hand, I’m very happy. The big screen in a theater is nice to watch it on, but the atmosphere for watching “The Anthem of the Heart” at home is also wonderful. Please enjoy it.
As a special attraction of the package, the “Jun ver.” From the musical is included. I would like you to listen to the straight singing voice of Jun which you can’t hear at the theater.
