Public Recording – Event Report
Comments from Sayaka Kanda
Q: About Yuna
‘I play Yuna, who is an idol in the AR world and a ’Song Princess’. She sings 5 songs in the movie. I was really happy when I was cast because in her visual she looks like a cute little devil.’
Q: Feelings on the recording session
‘Sword Art Online is a really popular series, so I was really happy to be able to enter that world. I’ve never been able to work as an idol in real life, so I was really happy to be able to have fun as an idol in this movie! I played her while getting kind advice and assistance from the production staff, including the director.’
Q: About voice acting
‘I still have a lot to learn as a voice actress, but to be able to to play a part in such a popular work among these professional voice actors… I knew I had to brace myself and put in all my effort even as a guest character. Yuna’s songs are filled with variety, and I hope you can enjoy them in the movie.’
Q: About the appeal of Sword Art Online
‘Sword Art Online is an anime that depicts both the fantasy and the real world. VR games are trending right now, and it’s starting to feel like the worlds in SAO may really happen. I want to try it out for myself.’
Q: About the challenges of recording Yuna
‘Yuna is an AR idol, but she sings many different kinds of songs in the movie. So, I didn’t take influence from any real-life person in particular, but just played the Yuna only I could play.’
Yuna – Character Info

Comments from Yoshio Inoue, VA for the mysterious young swordsman, Eiji.
Q: Thoughts on the recording session
‘The recording was full of surprises for me. It was very different to acting on stage as I had to keep coming to and leaving from the mic. I realised that it really is a skilled profession as the acting is done in a matter of seconds and not only do you have to get the lines right, but the timing as to when you put in the emotions is also important. I remember very well when the director praised me when I asked him about my performance. I did my performance with the hope that I could somehow have even the tiniest positive effect on this work.’
Q: About the highlights of the movie
‘At first it seems difficult to understand as there is specialist lingo such as AR and VR. However, it is really just a story about something being born from people’s emotions. Eiji is a brilliant character who is full of humanity. I tried to play him so that you can really understand his life and feelings. I hope you will come and enjoy the movie.’
Eiji – Character Info

Comment from Takeshi Kaga who plays Shigemura, developer of the ‘Augma’
Q: Thoughts on the recording
‘There were a lot of specialized words, so I feel that I learned a lot. I had to concentrate a lot when such words appeared in my script, and that really sticks in my mind, so it’s something to pay attention to.’
Q: About the highlights of the movie
‘I was surprised at how amazing animation has become. The highlights will be different for each person watching the movie, so I will be really happy if each movie-goer can come and decide on what they think is a highlight. We have made a brand-new work for SAO. It’s a really interesting movie, so please keep your expectations high and come to see it.’
