Sumire ’Sumepi’ Uesaka on top of her activities as a singer has also worked as a voice actress on Girls and Panzer and Kantai Collection.
Sumire openly shares her love for Russia. She has mentioned in many interviews about how she was charmed by the national anthem of the former Soviet Union during her high school days and went to study Russian at Sophia University later on. Even during her own radio show she greets her listeners with ‘Добрый вечер’, which is Russian for ‘good evening.’
But her activities aren’t only motivated by her love for Russia. In 2013 she participated at another Japanese Culture Event in Russia called ‘J-FEST’. She sang live and performed the voices of her anime characters in front of the audience.
She has been also appointed as an official supporter of the ‘Romanov Dynasty Exhibition -How Japan saw Russia, how Russia saw Japan-’, which started on 7 January 2017 and will be held until 9 April 2017 in the Toyo Bunko hall, Tokyo. Ikuo Kameyama, an expert on Russian literature, held a very successful talk event with the title ‘My heart, Russia♡’.
Sumipe will be at the Japanese Culture Day in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
If you plan to visit the event, a passport and a visa are needed. Getting the visa ready takes at least 3 workdays, so if there are any Doushi shokun (= fans of Sumire Uesaka) planning to see her performance, hurry up and prepare!
For those in Japan who don’t have time to do a lot of research: there is a direct flight to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Airport from Haneda Airport. It takes about 2 and a half hours. From Hokkaido’s New Chitose Airport it takes one and a half hours.
Sumire Uesaka will also have the former Yuzhno-Sakhalinski Consul General of Japan, Akira Imamura, as a guest in her radio show. Since Sumipe knows so much about Russia, listeners can expect to listen to an interesting discussion between the two of them!
