Hello! I am Kitahata, the editor-in-chief at MANGA.TOKYO. I live in Japan and turn press releases from Japanese companies into articles that are easy for those outside of Japan to understand. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!
Takeshi Ebihara’s manga Miss Machiko will get a theater adaptation called ‘Maicching Machiko Sensei ~Rinkai Gakkou de Ningyo Densetsu! Sonna Kototte Arieru?’ Miss Machiko will be played by gravure idol Hikaru Aoyama and the play will be performed at the Buddhist Hall, Tokyo from 17-20 August 2017.
The original manga was published in the 80s and revolves around Miss Machiko, a teacher at an elementary school, and her life with her students. In the play, Machiko will of course use her famous phrase ‘Maicching!’, which caused a boom when it first came out. The series was so popular that it was turned into an anime and a drama CD.
The stage version will tell the nostalgic story of a legend about a mermaid. The casting includes Saki Yanase, Aimi Natsume, Makoto Takahashi, and Kanae Shiina. At the venue will also be a ‘Maicching Machine’, which will blow air when it’s picture time.
Ticket sales start mid-June. There are also ‘Super Machiko Seats’ available, the center seats in the first row. Only 4 of them are available for each performance. More information on ticket sales will be announced soon.
