You didn’t misread the title, in case you were wondering. The new spin-off manga started serializing at Shueisha’s Shounen Jump Plus digital manga magazine and stars Yamcha in an alterate universe story that places the weak wolf as the definitive hero of Akira Toriyama’s classic story.
The manga is named Dragon Ball Gaiden: Tensei-shitara Yamcha Datta Ken (Dragon Ball Side Story: The Case of Being Reincarnated as Yamcha.) It is written and illustrated by Dragon Garow Lee who is best known for his mimic style.

The story follows a high schooler who finds himself in the Dragon Ball universe, inhabiting Yamcha’s body. Of course, the kid is a Dragon Ball fan and knows exactly what is going to happen in the story. Using that knowledge, he tries to make Yamcha the hero of the story.
The manga is currently in Japanese, but considering the popularity of Dragon Ball, I am betting on an English translation to come pretty soon.
