Thanasis is a writer, professional geek, and assistant editor at MANGA.TOKYO. He started watching anime with the mecha shows of the 70s and hasn't stopped since. He loves JRPGs.
In darkness, a hero returns. Castlevania comes to Netflix July 7.
The series is written by Warren Ellis and produced by Adi Shankar, who you may know from his Power Rangers dark and violent fan film. The animation production is credited to the US Frederator Studios and you can see from the trailer below that the character designs look definitely anime.
The teaser is building on nostalgia as it shows an old-school Nintendo Entertainment System playing what seems to be an 8-bit version of Netflix. The 80s commercial stops as soon as the anime-like animation starts. A Belmont (because what else can he be) takes the family’s weapon of choice and whips his way through Dracula’s castle. We see Dracula in one of the scenes with his favorite pets, and there’s another of a blonde vampire… Alucard?
Nevertheless, there is only one question that’s burning my mind regarding this adaptation: Are they going to use the iconic music or not?
Enjoy the trailer!
