Louvre Museum Special Exhibition “Louvre No.9 ~Manga, 9th Art” will be held at the Forest Arts Center Gallery from Friday, July 22nd to Sunday, September 25th.
“Louvre No.9” exhibits works which were freely created by 16 writers with Louvre Museum as a theme, and you can enjoy the world of manga and Bande Dessine (BD). BD writers including Nicolas de Crecy, Enki Bilal and Etienne Davodeau, and Japanese manga artists that include Hirohiko Araki, Shinichi Sakamoto, Jiro Taniguchi, Taiyou Matsumoto, Daisuke Igarashi, Katsuya Terada and Mari Yamazaki participated in the project.
It is a collaboration of Louvre Museum which houses various art works ranging from those of ancient civilizations to those of 19th century and Japanese manga artists.
At the private view event held on Thursday, July 21st, Fabrice Douar, a deputy manager of Louvre Museum’s publishing department who worked hard for the opening of this exhibition, made a greeting. “I think BD inherits the flows from “Continuous Paintings” and “Story Paintings”. Enjoy BD and manga as art works” he said. Fabricec insisted that even though the exhibition itself is a new idea but it surely is inheriting the history of art till today.
Before you enter the museum, a movie in which you can learn history, exhibitions and historic value of Louvre Museum will be displayed to take you into the world of Louvre. When the movie is finished, the door opens and the replica of “Winged Victory” with floors covered with manga and pages flying in mid-air appears. You can enter the museum with a pleasant surprise.
Also, the exhibitions are separated into three chapters; “Chapter 1 : The Great LOUVRE”, “Chapter 2 : Welcome to a Parallel World” and “Chapter 3 : Beyond Time and Space”. There are over 300 items being exhibited including original pictures, materials and movies explaining the process of creating digital animation.
You can read manga of each writer as well as you can appreciate them like paintings. There is a section which space itself can be enjoyed as art as well so you will be able to enjoy variety of exhibitions.
