We already know that TV anime Little Witch Academia will start airing on January 8 in Japan, but this time we have some more information for you: Little Witch Academia will also stream every Monday on streaming site Netflix starting January 9!
The short animated movie Little Witch Academia was first shown on March 2013 as part of ‘Animirai 2013’, which was run by the Agency of Cultural Affairs to help nurture young animators. The popular fantasy focuses on the antics of Akko, who enters the famous Luna Nova Magical Academy in order to pursue her dream of becoming a witch. After the short, the creators uses a crowdfunding service to fund the next project and managed to reach their target in just one day. The sequel, Little Witch Academia: the Enchanted Parade, was released in 2015.
The TV anime series, highly-anticipated by fans, will be a new story that starts with Akko’s entry into Luna Nova Magical Academy. The director of the series will be once again be original creator Yoh Yoshinari, who is known for Rebuild of Evangelion and the mechanical designs of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. The main character designs will be done by Shuhei Handa, known as the Chief Animation Director for Space Patrol Luluco and for developing ideas for Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade.
Netflix is the world’s largest online streaming service with 860 million users in over 190 countries. Netflix Japan launched in 2015. It has a varied line-up of shows including P.A Works’s Kuromukuro and Polygon Picture’s Ajin.
Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade premiered at Anime Expo in the US and has gained a lot of popularity outside Japan. With the new series streaming on Netflix, perhaps Little Witch Academia can gain an even bigger audience around the world.
