Kinema Junpo, possibly the oldest Japanese magazine about cinema, recently announced the winners of its prestigious Best 10 Award. The winners of the 90th awards were chosen by 100 film critics and journalists.
The award for best Japanese film went to the movie adaptation of the World War II drama manga written by Fumiyo Kouno, Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni. The last time an anime was selected for the award, it was 1988 – Hayao Miyazaki’s My Neighbor Totoro. Director Sunao Katabuchi was awarded Best Director.
