The manga Kakegurui: Compulsive Gambler by Homura Kawamoto (story) and Tooru Naomura (art) will be turned into an anime. The story takes place in a school that sorts their students through gambling. The main character is Yumeko Jabari, who enjoys the risks of gambling.
The newly released visual teaser picture shows a smiling Yumeko. Together with the release of the teaser, the official homepage and official Twitter have also been opened. When the original authors were asked about the anime adaption, Homura commented: ‘It’s the biggest surprised of my life!’ and Naomura said: ‘To be able to see many of the scenes with color and sound and be able to see everything move is like a dream…’
The director will be Yuichiro Hayashi, who also directed Garo: The Animation. Yasuko Kobayashi is in charge of the series composition. Manabu Akita is the character designer. The production company will be MAPPA.
The original manga Kakegurui is serialized in Square Enix’ Gangan Joker and currently has 5 volumes. The 6th volume will go on sale on February 22, 2017.
Also, the spin-off Kakegurui Twin with art by Kei Saki and Kakegurui (Kari) with art by by Taku Kawamura are also being serialised. Furthermore, the new serialization Kakegurui Midari by Yuchi Hiiragi will start together with the release of the Square Enix Manga App ‘Manga UP!’ on February 21, 2017.
