The visuals of the cast of the live-action film The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. (Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan) have been released. We also have a 30-second teaser video narrated by the star, Kento Yamazaki!
The live-action film is directed by Yuuichi Fukuda (known for the Yuusha Yoshihiko series) who insisted that Kento Yamazaki should play the main character. Yamazaki readily accepted the offer and took on his first main role in a comedy.
The rest of the cast is also made up of well-known actors: Kanna Hashimoto plays Kokomi Teruhashi, whose thoughts are read by Saiki. Saiki’s self-proclaimed partner, Riki Nendou, is played by Hirofumi Arai. Ryou Yoshizawa plays Shun Kaidou, who is fighting with an illegal organization in his mind. They are joined by Hideyuki Kasahara, Kento Kaku, Murotsuyoshi, and Jirou Satou.
Kusuo Saiki’s pink hair and Riki Nendou’s cleft chin have been recreated perfectly, and the creator of the original manga, Shuuichi Asou, was surprised when he visited the set. Asou said, ‘Honestly, I was doubtful when they said they were going to make the hair pink. One of the biggest worries when making a live-action adaptation of a manga is, “How much of the appearance should we keep true to the manga?” If you completely ignore it, the fans will get angry, but if you are too loyal, then it just doesn’t feel right… Most of the time, there is a good balance, but this movie was different. Pink! Blue hair! Cleft chin! Yes, but how is it? It doesn’t feel strange! Thanks to the amazing cast who don’t lose to the fantastical appearance of the characters, my worries have been cleared up! Now we just wait for the movie’s release! I’m looking forward to it!!’
In the teaser visuals, Saiki is seen holding a floating Earth on the palm of this right hand. The slogan ‘Whew, love and friendship are so bothersome’ is written on the poster, typical of his aloof personality. In the trailer, Yamazaki breaks the fourth wall by saying, ‘Everyone watching this trailer!’

‘I really loved the manga so it was an intersection of my happiness and surprise at being able to participate, the doubt at whether I’d be able to play a high schooler in my 30’s, and the various emotions at P.K. Academy. Hairo is, above anything, a passionate person who lives with all his might and is a little strange. He is quite a bit different to me, so it required a lot of energy to play him. So I decided that every morning when I woke up I would yell in a loud voice. There were many things that I had never done before so I relaxed and entrusted my firsts to Director Fukuda who kindly guided me.’
