The anime channel Cartoon Network has revealed that the newest Barbie cartoon series Barbie Dreamtopia will begin airing in Japan on March 3, 2017. Voice actress Rie Kugimiya will voice Chelsea (Barbie’s younger sister) in the Japanese dub.
Barbie Dreamtopia takes place in the magical fantasy world called Dreamtopia, created by Chelsea (Barbie’s younger sister). Dreamtopia is drawn as a fantasy world themed on girls’ favorite concepts such as Sweets, Rainbow, and Shiny. This anime will be aired in the special program titled ‘Shinsaku de Barbie Birthday 7 Days SP.’ The long version of the CG animation series will be aired for seven days consecutively.
Kugimiya, who voices the energetic and slightly precocious girl, Chelsea, said: ‘I enjoy voicing for works targeted at little children because I feel that I am part of their dreams. I can’t believe that I can call the beloved Barbie my sister.’ She also commented on the fantasy world Dreamtopia: ‘The story has an amazing fantasy world surrounded by rainbows, sweets and shiny things.’ She then introduced her favorite town made from sweets and said: ‘I felt that this is exactly the world which girls dream of! Especially when I saw the scene with the lemonade river and the chocolate river.’
Kugimiya also sing the opening theme, ‘This song is cheerful and bright so please check it out.’
She is also very hopeful about the Japanese dub, ‘I hope children will enjoy this animation and watch it many times. Also, I would be delighted if children watch it over and over and hopefully discover their favorite scenes, phrases, costumes, and characters.’
