The broadcast of the TV anime series “Berserk” started on July 8th on Animeism. Prior to the start of the broadcast, the special advanced screening event was held at the Yurakucho Asahi Hall in Tokyo on July 2nd. For the talk show, Hiroaki Iwanaga of Guts, Yoko Hikasa of Farnese, Kazuyuki Okitsu of Serpico, Hiro Shimono of Isidro, Toa Yukinari of Casca and producer Akihiro Takeuchi appeared on the stage and talked about allures of the series and their enthusiasm toward the series.
“Berserk” is originated from Kentarou Miura’s fantasy comic that has been in serialization in “Young Animal” (Hakusensha) for a long time. The story features the life of Guts, the main character, who survives by fighting with a huge sword that looks like a lump of iron on the stage where swords, magic and monsters exist.
The series was once broadcasted on TV in 1997 as “Sword-Wind Chronicle Berserk”. In 2011, “Berserk Saga Project” which aims to make all stories into videos have been announced and this story was made into TV series as the second of this project.
Many fans gathered quickly at the event in order to watch the latest anime series as soon as possible. After the screening of the episodes 1 and 2, their high quality brought out a huge applause from the audiences. Keeping that excitement, the talk show started.
First, they talked about the impressions they had on the story. Okitsu of Serpico touched the image expression and praised the impressive action scenes with 3DCG. He also praised the touch of the drawing as it well-expresses the atmosphere of the original story.
On the other hand, Shimono said that he was surprised at the “sound”. He mentioned that the metal sound which was made when Guts brought down enemies with his huge sword is expressing the lump-of-metal feeling very well.
Then they talked about the characters they act. Iwamizu of Gutz was the first one to be asked the question. After the long pause, he just said “Guts is strong…”. Shimono soon responded “We’ve already known that!” what made the audience laugh. Iwamizu said that he would like to express not only the strong side of Guts but also the weak side and the loneliness he hides in himself.
Also, regarding the “Berserk”-like hard drawings, producer Takeuchi mentioned that he wanted to completely imitate that even in the TV series. Then he went on “I would like to express everything, from violence and pain to anger and sorrow”, Hikasa strongly agreed by saying “Yes, definitely!”.
As to what to watch in the future episodes, they recommended to pay attention to Kentarou Miura’s newly written anime original story that will be appearing as the third episode and the interesting act of Rikiya Koyama of Mozgus.
At the end of the event, the main cast shared their enthusiasm toward the series. And then Iwanaga made a surprise announcement. He announced his marriage and the birth of his first child, which surprised the audience and made them applaud enthusiastically. Yukinari of Casca gave Iwanaga a bouquet and the event ended in this celebrating atmosphere.
