Shin Godzilla, the latest movie in the series, is currently airing in theaters.
The total number of viewers has already reached 2.68 million people and the total box-office revenue was over 3.8 billion JPY twenty days after its release. It has already surpassed the total box-office revenue of the second GODZILLA Hollywood movie which was 3.2 billion JPY.
In addition, it ranked at the top spot as the most popular movie for two consecutive weeks after its release. Even though there are multiple blockbuster movies being released at the same time, its popularity does not seem to waiver at all.
On August 1st, the total number of people who watched all 29 movies from the first Godzilla (1954) to Shin Godzilla (2016) has passed the 100 million mark, a great achievement for a Japanese live-action movie franchise.
Our favorite lizard is now going into uncharted territories. Godzilla is going to be animated.
Hanna-Barbera Productions has already produced and broadcast an animated Godzilla in America back in 1978 and director Roland Emmerich has produced Godzilla : The Series, a sequel to the first Hollywood movie, but this is the first time Godzilla gets his own animation movie.
Well, the title of the animation is nothing fancy: it’s just GODZILLA. The logo you see on top of the article is the official title logo and there is also a teaser visual of our favorite monster. It shows a completely different visual image of Godzilla if you compare it to the previous models. Top creators from the Japanese animation industry gathered to create this new image.
Koubun Shizuno, known for his famous anime movie Detective Conan : Nightmare (2016) with a total box-office revenue of 6.31 billion JPY so far, will take over the role of the director.
In addition, Hiroyuki Seshita, a master of CG creation who was a director of the TV anime series Knights of Sidonia : Battle for Planet Nine (2015) and who gave consistent quality to the Ajin series from the movie to the TV anime as a general director, is also going to be one of the director’s. You don’t hear it very often, but the movie is going to have two of them.
As for the original story and scripts, Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus) will take up pen duty, He is known for his TV anime series Fate/Zero and PSYCHO-PASS, he received an animation Award at the 15th Cultural Affair Agency’s Media Art Festival, and he is supported by anime fans because of his unique ideas and stories that don’t allow readers to foresee the conclusion. We all love a good mystery, don’t we?
The production studio is CG Studio Polygon Pictures which is highly respected all around the world for their works Transformer Prime and Star Wars: Clone Wars (Emmy Award).
In 2019, the second movie of the Legendary Pictures licence (third Hollywood movie) Godzilla 2, will be released across America, and in 2020, we will get to see the much anticipated Godzilla vs. Kong. Don’t expect the hype to go away any time soon.
