A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi) is a famous manga by Yoshitoki Oima that dares to face contemporary societal issues that we all face today regardless our age. It won the Men’s category of the Kono Manga ga Sugoi award in 2015 and the New Creator Category of the 19th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Award in the same year.
A Silent Voice was produced by Kyoto Animation, known for works like K-on! The Movie (2011) which was nominated for the Japan Academy Awards Animation of the Year.
On November 30, A Silent Voice reached a revenue of 2.2 billion yen at the box office, and had sold over 1.7 million tickets. It was also announced that there would be extra screenings as well as ‘Super Sound Quality Screenings’ at Tachikawa Cinema City from Saturday December 31.
2016 was a really great year for anime. With Kimi no Na wa still dominating the charts and Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni ranking 10th for a few weeks, anime fans can only be hopeful for the future.
