It has been six years since the TV anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica first aired, and five years since its first theatrical movie was released. Could you tell me your thoughts regarding the Madoka Magica series?
‘The series gave me a lot of chances and valuable experience. For instance, it was a significant experience for me to voice the main character of a TV anime series, which extended to the theatrical movies. I’ve received much support from many fans, as well as feedback, both positive and critical.
The series was also adapted into a smartphone app and video games, which gave me a lot of experience in voice acting. I appreciate that our third movie will be available to watch via AbemaTV, a few years after its debut.’
Which part of the third movie, Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie – Rebellion, do you like most?
‘I like the fact that the movie shows scenes that fans want to watch. For example, the scene of the five characters, Madoka, Akemi Homura, Sayaka Miki, Mami Tomoe, and Kyoko Sakura transforming into magical girls together, or fighting together. These scenes were hardly depicted in the TV series and the previous movies, but fans have been hoping to watch them.
I must warn fans that, as the line in the movie says, they have to pay in ‘despair’ for watching it, and I believe it’s the real value of the movie. I was impressed by the line, “You watched something really happy, now then you must pay off with your despair.”’
I guess people who watch this movie as a newcomer will be surprised. I think it’s great that people can watch such movies on their smartphone. Do you often watch AbemaTV?
‘Yes. I downloaded the app as I was in their special program.’
There are so many channels on it. Do you choose their anime channel after all?
‘I do, as I like that it has the feature to comment on each anime. I enjoy reading comments on the anime that I’m interested in. I mostly enjoy watching old anime series on it, because I feel like I’m watching it with other fans by reading their comments.’
