Haikyuu!! Second Season – #18 Full of Ennoshita’s charms!
Episode 18: Losers
Without captain Sawamura, team Karasuno struggles to get their mojo going and can’t put out their best performance. The Wakunan’s #1 player Nakashima applies a play style that is similar to the style of the Small Titan. Frustrated, Hinata challenges Nakashima in mid-air battle.
Review (spoiler alert)
Under pressure, Ennoshita accumulates several mistakes. On the other hand, Nakashima is on the roll, his spikes confirmed Wakunan’s winning of the second set.
Ennoshita feels responsible for losing the second game and gets mopey. Karasuno’s teammates encourage him and get him psyched up again. Thanks to this, Ennoshita gets a second wind, and aims to play like Daichi.
In the third game, Hinata catches a block out, and then, strikes a smashing spike. He scores point which compensates the mistake he made a little earlier.
Ennoshita praises Hinata’s fine play. Then Kageyama says, “Even in the tight spot, we still have the firepower to break through, that’s our team’s strength.” Kageyama reminds Ennoshita that that was a remark made by Ennoshita himself in the past.
There is no time to waste dwelling on under-performing. Ennoshita decides to overcome the mental hung-up, and suggests that the team should work harder to thwart the opponent’s block out approach.
Right after this, Ennoshita actually demonstrates what he suggested. He catches the opponent’s block out. Helped by Hinata’s another successful performance, the team rakes in more points.
Team Karasuno regains team’s unity, and finally catches up with Wakunan. For a while the match gets really close, with neither team giving in.
Eventually Karasuno reaches a match point. Hinata and Kageyama try a new swift attack, but, due to a fret, they miss, allowing Wakunan a chance.
Ennoshita, who has been watching the two, totally and swiftly calms them like expected of the captain.
Seizing this chance, Wakunan’s Nakashima aims for another block out, but, Ennoshita doesn’t let him; he catches the block out ball! Hinata knows exactly what he needs to do, he smashes another spike, and Karasuno wins! On to semi-finals! Yeah!
After the game, Ennoshita walks to the restroom, seeking for a place where he can be all by himself. He finally feels relieved but also he hates himself for feeling like that and blames himself for the things he did, or the things he didn’t. Yamaguchi, too, has something on his mind, and heads to the restroom.
On the other hand, Hinata and the others decide to watch the Date Tech vs Seijoh game. The winner of this match will be the Karasuno’s next opponent.
It was an awesome 30 minutes, packed with all kinds of Ennoshita’s feelings, don’t you think?
In a situation like where pressure prevents teammates from their best performance, Ennoshita gains his teammates support, and eventually brings out a solution by analyzing and trying things, until the team gets the mojo back. Even after the game is over, Ennoshita feels the responsibility and pressure lifts off of his shoulder, but he keeps blaming himself for letting himself loose like that.Such integrity is the reason why all the team members trust Ennoshita, and, the trust makes Ennoshita an excellent player. What an amazing teamwork.
Hinata, Kageyama, also Tsukishima, are also stepping up, aren’t they? You can see that everywhere in the story, making it fun to keep watching them.
Date Tech vs. Seijoh… now who wins this battle? The winner of the match will play against Karasuno next time.
