This time, the given mission is to deter the incident of eighteen years ago. Satoru works hard to make sure Hinazuki is not left alone.
The fourth episode story unfolds like a crazy jet coaster ride, leaving me an emotional wreck. Let me share with you some highlights from the fourth episode!
Synopsis of the fourth episode
One week to day X. Satoru makes up his mind to do everything he can to prevent the crime. Satoru invites Hinazuki to the Science Center, but her mother won’t let her go with him. Sachiko steps in and joins the conversation. Her tactfulness allows Satoru to take Hinazuki with him to the Science Center. It occurs to his mind that he had the same conversation with Hinazuki eighteen years ago. A question arises in his head. Am I riding the same rail of pre-Revival? In no time, he faces with the day X.
Highlights – the story unfolds like a jet coaster
The biggest question is whether if he can go past the day X, the day when Hinazuki disappears, without losing her. A thrilling story sets the tone of this episode. It is roughly divided into three phases.
A moment of suspense
On February 27th. Satoru takes Hinazuki out to a date at the Science Center.
So far, Satoru has been successful with his agenda. All the sudden, he realizes that he is having exactly the same conversation they had eighteen years ago.
Am I repeating history…? Am I on the same course I was 18 years ago on without knowing so? Where did I make a mistake? Doubts cross Satoru’s mind, but they don’t last long. Satoru’s besties, his classmates, show up late to join Satoru and Hinazuki.
Good, this is not like eighteen years ago! Satoru feels that he has turned the tide. This scene is a nice relieve after the moment of tension.
Highlight 2: X-day
The day of question arrives. The day X, March 1st. The tension picks up again.
Satoru is adamant that he won’t leave Hinazuki alone. To improve the odds, he picks her up before the school, and spend times together after the school.
Eighteen years ago, Hinazuki was standing alone in a park. Now, she’s walking right next to him and he’s holding her hand. The history is changing. Day X ends without anything unexpected happening, and Satoru believes that he successfully averted the crime. He cleared the mission! At this scene, I let go of a big sigh of relief.
A day after day X, March 2nd, Satoru visits her house to pick her up again. He confirms her safety, and firmly believes that all of his efforts have bare fruits, that he has finally changed history.
Highlight 3: Unexpected ending
Despite the short relief moment, on March 3rd, a day after the birthday party, Hinazuki didn’t come to school. What does this mean?
The ending is a nasty surprise. Satoru, as well as the viewers too, felt reassured until just a minute ago believing that Satoru did change history. Well to tell the truth, I knew things wouldn’t go that perfect, something had to happen. My hunch was right, and I don’t feel good about it right now. What has happened to Hinazuki?
I’m obsessed to see the next episode. Let’s look forward to the next update!
