Today’s subtitle is “A Tiger Dies and Leaves His Skin”
This subtitle comes from a Japanese proverb, which means that just like a tiger leaves behind a beautiful fur coat when it passes away, so too should humans leave behind a beautiful and great name. (Source: Kotowaza Jiten)
There are many artists like Kurt Kobain and Jimi Hendrix who passed away young but became musical legends. In the Durarara world, too, there are many characters with strong personalities who would leave behind great names if they pass away. It is a subtitle with deep meaning. Could it be foreshadowing a character’s death?
Today’s chapter continues a trend of chaotic episodes! Let’s look at the highlights.
Synopsis: Episode 32
Each determined to do away with the other, Izaya and Shizuo are ready to settle the matter. “Saika worship” overruns the streets, and Kadota and Karisawa are in danger. Having unleashed “saika worship” on the town, Nasujima attempts to trump Shizuo by targeting Tom Tanaka. Mikado recieves a phone call from Chikago and is silently determined to meet Masaomi again. Finally, Celty gets her head back.
Highlights – Celty’s Head
This episode’s highlight is Celty’s head.
Celty’s lover, Shinra, was kidnapped, and as a result she has gone insane and changed some a black orb. The black orb that is Celty is being contained by Kasane, who has obtained Celty’s head and is about to sell it to Yagiri. Enter Shingen, Shinra’s father. Shingen steals Celty’s neck from Yagiri, and throws it to Celty’s body!
Celty’s body finally has its head again. It had been 20 years since, with her head properly in place, she last existed as Durahan.
The problem is, with her head returned, Celty has lost all of her memories over the past 20 years. Celty was worried about this herself.
True to form, with her head returned, despite running into Izaya, she does not recognize him. That means that her last 20 years’ worth of memories are well and truly gone.
Not only that, but in the ending credits Celty’s name has been replaced with Durandal’s! So her head is back, but are her memories gone for good? At any rate, Celty is one of this anime’s key characters, so I don’t want to believe that she’s about to make her exit!
What do you think?
Izaya and Shizuo’s showdown, Mikado and Masaomi’s reencounter… there’s a lot of drama unfolding. Next time: Izaya and Shizuo’s showdown continues.
