Ajin: Demi-Human – #03
KONNICHIWA! Emi again!
The third episode continues to be intriguing. Some of the highlights include Kei’s internal struggle against his burgeoning awareness as Ajin, a demi human, and, the mystery person, Sato, who calls himself the “hat”, begins working on his agenda. Let’s jump right into the third episode’s review.
Synopsis of the third episode
The information of Kei and his new identity “the third Ajin found in Japan” has been spread through the media and internet worldwide. The news reports Kei on the run with an identified accomplice, and announce a generous cash reward for whoever captures the Ajin. At Kei’s house, an executive member of the Ajin Control Committee, Tosaki, and his secretary Izumi, are meeting with Kei’s family members. Their objective is to find any clue to capture Kei. Meanwhile, Kei continues his escape through the mountain road. The night is almost over; the sky starts getting lighter and brighter, making it impossible for the escapee to keep going without being noticed.
Highlight 1: Kei’s internal dilemma
The episode depicts Kei’s sensitive dilemma between being half human and half Ajin.
Chased by a biker who’s after the reward, Kei and Kaito fall off from a cliff, which causes Kei to fracture his leg bone. Kei is no longer able to move around on his own. Kei thinks: he can’t afford his friend Kaito to slow down because of his injure. At this point, Kei takes an extreme step to solve the situation.
“What should I do? As a lone…. Ajin!“
He cuts his throat by himself. When Ajin dies, it resuscitates itself with full strength. Kaito’s action is technically efficient; however, it is a suicidal action, which is immoral act of human being. Plus, Kei’s suffering must have caused immense pain to Kaito, who’s watching the whole situation. This incident exemplifies that Kei starts being accommodated to being an Ajin, and that he has started to slowly lose the integrity as a human being.
Highlight 2: Sato moves
The third episode starts from a scene of Sato facing another man wrapped up in medical gauze bandages. Sato addresses the other guy “Tanaka-kun” and rescues him. Tanaka is actually an Ajin and has been under the Japanese government’s imprisonment for a while. Sato seems to have a secret agenda. He tempts Tanaka to help him find Kei. At this point, there is no way of knowing if this Sato guy is foe or friend, plus, there are too many mysterious thing about this guy. That said, I think I’m not wrong when I say that Sato is the key character who makes or breaks the story, I can tell from his powerful aura!
How was it?
In the next episode, we will see a fierce battle between two IBMs. Stay tuned!
