Ajin: Demi-Human – #02
KONNICHIWA! Emi again!
As his own immortality is now officially confirmed, Kei plans to hide from public eyes. He enlists a support from his childhood friend Kaito to start his fugitive life. Can he break free of the authorities? Let’s review the new episode’s highlights!
Synopsis of second episode
Kei speeds through the darkness of the night as he continues his escape. The mountain highway is deserted and scarcely any car passes by. The escape plan seems to be working for now. Kei’s mind goes back to a footage he saw on his cell phone. The footage records an Ajin-like person being tortured and killed in some laboratory. “If they catch me” Kei reflects, “I’m sure they are going to test if I’m immortal or not. I would be killed over and over… No. No! I don’t want that.”
The police set up the special task force office in front of Kei’s house, and lapped Kei’s house with access restriction tapes. A car stops in front of Kei’s house, and a man and woman step out from the car. The man’s name is Tosaki – an executive member of the Ajin containment department with the Minister of Health.
Highlight 1: Black Ghost appears
Thanks to Kaito’s help, Kei managed to stay out of the police’s radar. TV and the internet reports that whoever catches the third Ajin in Japan will get a 100 million Japanese yen cash reward. While Kei and Kaito continue on the mountain route to search a safer place to rest, a pair of gang came after Kei, and eventually, strangled Kei to death.
Out of nowhere, a black matter wafts in to the scene. It looks like a ghost, with the body shrouded in black, tangled bandages. Black smoke or dusty gas emits from the towering, floating figure. Sharp and hooked fingernails shine menacingly through the shrouds. Just one look of the figure will bind you with irrational terror. The shadowy, taller-than-mankind figure has an overwhelming presence.
Let me give you a quick explanation on this black matter. It is called Invisible Black Matter (IBM in short), which is thought to be one of the special abilities that Ajin possess. In other words, the black ghost like figure that you’ve just saw is Kei’s special ability. He controls that ghost without knowing.
Pay attention to the visually stunning IBM illustration on the screen. It’s a great benefit of the computer graphic art.
Highlight 2: Speed car chase scene
When Kei revives from death, he bellows a loud, ear-splitting yell (which is another ability of Ajin), and frees the scene. Kei and Kaito hurry back to the highway on their bike, however, the gang’s van quickly catches up with them. The succeeding heated car chase on a winding mountain road is gripping! The sound effect is also good, playing up the speedy dramatic feel to the max.
Ultimately, Kei’s ghost pushes the van with the gang members into a railroad crossing. A speeding train crashes with the van, killing the gang. Kei was able to get away from the pursuer.
What do you think? The show is visually stunning and the sound effect is remarkable. Please check out the show!
