Episode 2 Rundown
“Audition with Death”
Thanks to the success by Delta platoon and Walküre, a riot has been suppressed. A mysterious variable mechanized unit which had attacked Al Shahal City has withdrawn from the fight. Freyja, who reaffirmed herself, has come to planet Ragna with Hayate to go in for the final audition.
Number 1:― Classical plot development－
The main character who is a civilian is caught up in a battle and he had no choice but to get into Valkyrie and save the heroine. This is the classic way of the plot development in the Macross series, as this time also Hayate gets into Valkyrie and saves Freyja.
Hayate’s sence of operating Valkyrie is outstanding, and he operates Valkyrie as if he dances. Freyja is saved by Hayate and she feels the “wind” in a rhythm that Hayate taps. There’s a scene that Hayate feels the same “wind” for an instant. This production implies an outlaw character Hayate to have something of the pilot in him and to be fated to be a pilot.
Macross Delta follows the plot development of former Macross series. I’m looking forward to see how it links with the former series.
Number 1:―Ｔhe future of a love triangle―
Macross is famous as it always has a love triangle in each story. In Macross Delta, who is in the love triangle? Freyja and Hayate seem to fall in love with, but who is the other? There are 2 candidates at the moment.
The first one is Mikumo Guynemer from Walküre. If it was her, it forecasts the case of Sheryl Nome from the previous work, “Macross Frontier”.
The second one is a Valkyrie pilot Mirage from the delta platoon. I think she is most likely to be the one. If it was her, the love triangle will be like Hikaru Ichijo, Lynn Minmay, and Misa Hayase from the first Macross “Super Dimension Fortress Macross”. The point is that there are many scenes with Mirage and Hayate arguing. Mirage is full of experience. Hayate has a great talent of piloting. First they don’t mix well, but they may fall in love with each other while they battle the enemies together.
I’m looking forward to see how the love story develops.
Number 3:―Result of an audition―
Freyja goes to planet Ragna with Hayate to attend an audition of Walküre. The audition is going to start soon. Most girls admire to be an member of the Tactics Music Unit “Walküre”, but they need to sing on the battlefield at the risk of their lives once they are in the Tactics Music Unit.
Freyja attends the audition and does her best, but unfortunately she fails. Freyja gets suddenly attacked by a person who has developed a Var Syndrome when she is on a train to get home from the audition. Freyja sings ‘Love! Halation The War’ (“恋！ハレイションTHE WAR”) at the risk of her life.
Actually, it was the final competition of the audition of Walküre! Her spirit is appreciated and she finally passed the audition. I was surprised about passing the audition after failing it.
On the other hand, Hayate is being scouted as a member of Delta platoon Valkyrie. Hayate might have realized his fate as a pilot when he got into Valkyrie and felt the “wind”. He made up his mind to “fly in the sky” by Valkyrie.
Number 4:―Introducing theme songs―
Opening and ending songs have been finally introduced in the second story. The main song is “Love for only once” by Walküre. The lyrics are written by Miho Karasawa and Yusuke Kato, and music is composed and arranged by Yusuke Kato.
Miho Karasawa, who wrote the lyrics, is a person who is active as an anime singer called TRUE. She sings the ending song of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, and theme songs of Beautiful Bones: Sakurako’s Investigation and Sound! Euphonium.
Yusuke Kato, who composed and arranged the music is a J-POP hit maker. He has composed and arranged music for ARASHI, and “Lapis lazuli” sung by Aoi Eir from “The Heroic Legend of Arslan”.
It’s a song where the audience can feel the passion for love of the main character in an uptempo performance.
The ending song is”Rune ga Pikatto Hikattara” (“ルンがピカッと光ったら” “When the Rune Sparkles”) sung by Walküre. The music is composed and arranged by Comorita Minoru who has worked on”Ikenai Borderline” (“いけないボーダーライン” “Forbidden Borderline”), and it’s cute, pop and colorful. “Run” in the title is a heart-shaped hair accessory on Freyja’s hair. The credit title says it’s sung by Walküre, but this song seems to be a theme song for Freyja.
At the end
In the last scene of the second story, Hayate and Mirage started arguing caused by Hayate touching Mirage’s machine. In the third story, they may throw off sparks with Valkyrie. The third story “Dogfight” might be a great story with some robot action!
