The Iron Fortress was stuck, facing the Black Smoke, a huge fused colony of Kabane.
On the other hand, Ikoma and Mumei fell off to the underground of the abandoned station. Mumei trapped under rubbles and surrounded by Kabane, they are in a dire situation that they can’t even hope for back-ups. Ikoma still moves forward.
The crew members of the Iron Fortress shined in this episode.
Takumi participated in the battle against the Black smoke, Yukina successfully steered the train as the lead engineer, and all the members on the train united to work together to avoid derailing in the end.
The minor characters were not minor any more, and they gave out all they got to defeat the Black Smoke to show their “all-out war” atmosphere.
It is amazing that everyone was important and played their own role with big scenes and the incredible staging that held our attention from the beginning to the end.
Particularly notable was Kurusu and Ikoma teaming up. Kurusu had always treated Ikoma discriminatorily as a Kabaneri until this episode, but he chose to fight together instead at this major crisis.
Has he changed his mind after seeing Ikoma’s dedicated actions? Kurusu used the new sword Ikoma invented to slaughter the Kabane.
I had never expected Kurusu to use the Kabane sword, so this development excited me a lot. Maybe he starts treating Kabaneri differently from now on, and his change would be worthy of attention.
The battle actions were fully vibrant and captivated me. The way Kurusu slaughtered Kabane with his sword was very exhilarating and showed us his true mastery of swordmanship as well.
Using this Type 48 Cannon to scatter the heart of the Black Smoke made us realize how strong the beast was. Even such a powerful weapon can’t deal with this beast. It effectively filled us with anxiety and fear.
Mumei showed a sign of reflecting on her past conduct by counting on others’ cooperation instead of egocentric actions. It successfully created both an all-out war atmosphere and boosted the understanding between Kabaneri and humans in the process at the same time. The high quality story writing and staging really shined in this episode.
No characters wasted and all looked cool. Its amazing story development simply amazed me.
I’m looking forward to seeing how Kabaneri and humans are going to forge a committed relationship.
