Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko (She and her cat) is a sparkling gem of Makoto Shinkai’s self-made, self-produced work that debuted in 2000. This time, the same piece is going to be adapted to the TV animation format, with a brand-new production team!
A total of 4 episodes will be aired this March, as a part of Comics Wave Film Omnibus Series which has started January 2016 in the Ultra Super Anime Time.
Arguably, this short story represents the ultimate core of Shinkai’s world, thus, it is a huge challenge for whoever attempt to transform it to TV animation series. The promising talents who gathered around this challenging project present another highlight of the show!
The director, Kazuya Sakamoto, his solid performance can be found in a number of mega hits such as ‘The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya’ series and ‘Hyouka’. He takes on a new approach to Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko, with the members from newly-founded Liden Flim Kyoto Studio – a former Liden Film, which has produced ‘TERRA FORMARS’ and ‘The Heroic Legend of Arslan’.
The script is written by Naruki Nagakawa, who worked on the novel version of Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko. The Character Designer and General Visual Director is Senbon Umishima who managed a similar role in the OVA ‘Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet’. I must say that that amazing array of talented specialists is perfect for the visualization of this masterpiece…!
As far as the casting goes, Kana Hanazawa is confirmed for the heroine. She has backgrounds in many anime works and has also played the leading role in ‘The Garden of Words’, another film by Shinkai. For ‘The Black Cat and the Narrator’, Shintaro Asanuma is nominated. The amazing lineup will surely bring a new perspective to this anime.
On the hottest day of the summer, she, and her cat, I, began our life together.
She is about to graduate from college and has been busy with job search. She’s a hard worker, so, for a person like her, the time with her pet – which is me – is brief but relaxing, a very precious moment. However, she has a lot on her mind lately: things about her family, friends, and future… Many things are not going well, and sometimes she gets hurt too much to keep moving forward.
But she somehow manages to pull herself together. Holding her head high, she opens the door and steps out… to the world out there. I love her. I want to keep my eye on her forever and ever.
