Turnaround Tonosaman Last Trial
Niboshi the actor, who plays the kids action show hero “Tonosaman” was arrested for the charge of murder. He’s the #1 suspect of killing his fellow actor Ibukuro, who plays a villain role in the same show. Naruhodou has been on the case and finally discovered an unknown fact that he can use for his benefit, defending the actor Niboshi. Naruhodou has a hunch that the show’s director Himegami got something to do with the murder case. In the trial, he discloses the information and claims that Himegami was also capable of the crime. Himegami fights back and says that she doesn’t have the physical strength to wield the heavy Tonosaman Spear that was used in the murder. However, Naruhodou believes that something else was used to kill Ibukuro. The rival and star prosecutor Mitsurugi demands Naruhodou to submit the murder weapon to the court. Naruhodou doesn’t have it. Again, he is cornered.
Tonosaman is the hero character of the kids’ number one action show. Saburou Niboshi is the actor who performs the leading role. His fellow actor Takeshi Ibukuro, performing the role of villain Akudaikaan, had been brutally murdered, and Niboshi was arrested. The rookie lawyer Naruhodou offers to help Niboshi as his defense lawyer. The initial investigation suggests that, given the environment and situation, Niboshi is the only person who could have accessed the crime location and committed the crime, even though there were several other individuals present at the location on that day. During the investigation Naruhodou quickly faces a roadblock; however, he uncovers a piece of information that no one else knew, from a kid named Kyuuta Ootaki, a die-hard Tonosaman fan. Naruhodou determines that the person who was wearing the Tonosaman suit and pretended to be him on the day of the murder was the other actor, Ibukuro. Naruhodou also discovers that the murder actually took place in the Studio 2, not Studio 1. The show’s producer Sakura Himegami was working in the Studio 2 that day. It means that she could be a murder suspect too. Conveniently enough, Himegami is already scheduled to testify at the court in the following day.
In the following day, at the court, initial statement is presented, then, Himegami shows up at the witness stand. She states that she attended the meeting that day, which was held between 12:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon on the day of the murder, at the cottage of Studio 2, then, she headed to Studio 1, to participate the rehearsal at 5 p.m. One of her staff found the body of Ibukuro in Studio 1. The estimated time of death is 2:30 pm, during which, Himegami was in the middle of the meeting. However, Naruhodou points out that she had a break at around 2:30 p.m. for roughly 15 minutes. Himegami admits that she stepped outside of the cottage during that time.
Shortly after her testimony, Naruhodou introduces to the court the new discovery he made and his new claim based on the new information. He states that Ibukuro was wearing the Tonosaman character suit to hide his identity, and, that Ibukuro was in fact murdered in Studio 2, not Studio 1. Naruhodou then submits one of Kyuuta’s photos as evidence to support his theory. Naruhodou proves his point that Himegami did have a chance to murder Ibukuro wearing the Tonosaman suit, if, he was present at Studio 2 between 2:15 and 2:30, which is Himegami’s break time.
The prodigy prosecutor Mitsurugi pushes back Naruhodou’s claim saying that the body was found in Studio 1. Naruhodou fires back that the culprit moved the body in order to cover up the crime location. Himegami smiles coldly at Naruhodou and states that the murder weapon, Tonosaman’s Spear, weighs 15 kg. Himegami doesn’t have enough physical strength to wield such a heavy object. The autopsy reports that Ibukuro sustained the fatal blow from the front angle. Himegami stresses that she would have never been able to take away a weapon from an action star like Ibukuro, and wiled the heavy spear, and stub him from the front.
Naruhodou remembers that the spear in question had been snapped off in two, before the murder took place. He presumes that the Tonosaman Spear is not the murder weapon. Given Naruhodou’s claim, Mitsurugi demands Naruhodou to present the weapon that he thinks has killed the victim. Naruhodou is not ready to present an answer, and, without an alternative or evidence, he is about to give up. At that precise moment, someone yells from the visitors’ gallery, “Hold it!” It is Kyuuta, the die-hard Tonosaman fan. He pledges in tears that Naruhodou must work something out, because, “The hero does the right things and punishes bad guys, right? You got to beat the bad guy, and save Tonosaman! Please!”
Obachan is struck by Kyuuta’s words. She stealthily approaches Naruhodou in the defense seat, and, hands him a photo, which illustrates a man’s corpse that is savagely speared through the iron fence, and another guy looking down on the corpse, shocked – which looks a lot like … Ibukuro. Himegami is also in the picture. Obachan explains that the photo was taken 5 years ago. According to her, Ibukuro accidentaly terminated the life of the fellow actor during the movie production, and, Himegami hushed the media to report anything about the death, or, Ibukuro’s involvement in the accident. Ever since, Obachan states, that Himegami worked Ibukuro cheap. From Obachan’s story Naruhodou is able to deduce what the real murder weapon is. He’s ready to fight back. “Take this!” He submits the evidence that suggests his theory on the murder weapon. Naruhodou proudly launches his “reversed” logic to fire back…!
