Turnaround Tonosaman 2nd Trial
Mayoi loves a kids show called “Oedo Senshi Tonosaman.” Sabrurou Niboshi is the super popular leading actor who performs the role of Tonosaman. He was arrested as the murder suspect of killing his rival actor, Takeshi Ibukuro, who plays the villain “Kaijin Akudaikaan” in the same show. Naruhodou figures out that there were two more individuals present at the studio that day of the murder. He goes to see the show director Takuya Uzai, and, the producer Sakura Himegami. Both individuals inform Naruhodou that they were working in studio 2 that day, and the only access between studio 2 and studio 1 was shut down. Naruhodou loses a lead again. In a pickle, he finds a hint of breakthrough in the photo album of Tonosaman’s big fan!
Mayoi’s favorite action show leading actor, Tonosaman, aka Saburou Niboshi was arrested for the charge of murder. Takeshi Ibukuro, who plays the villain “Kaijin Akudaikaan” in the same action show was brutally murdered. The rookie lawyer, Naruhodou, steps up to defend Niboshi. At the trial, he once again battles against the prodigy prosecutor, Mitsurugi, who, proclaims that no one but Niboshi can possibly have executed the crime, given the situation and evidence collected. Mitsurugi makes a motion to call a guilty verdict on Niboshi.
To buy time, Naruhodou states that the security guard who was presented at the scene also had a chance to commit the crime. The security staff, Kaoru Ooba (who prefers to go by her nickname “Obachan”), confesses that there is something she was asked to hash up. On the day of the murder, there were two more individuals working at the filming studio. The action show’s director and producer had a meeting at the studio number 2. At this news, the court shakes in uproar. The judge orders temporary recess.
Naruhodou and Mayoi visits the Eito Filming Studio to see the director, Takuya Uzai, and the producer, Sakura Himegami. Uzai admits that on the day of murder he was present at the meeting in the studio, which was held in the morning to go over several action scenes. Uzai takes Naruhodou to Studio 2, which actually has been shut down since a tragic accident 5 years ago. Uzai introduces the show’s producer Himegami, a big shot who has revitalized near-bankrupt studio business.
Himegami informs Naruhodou that the access between Studio 1 and Studio 2 was shut down on the day of the murder. A huge sculpture of a character called “Sarumagedon” snapped off from its neck. The humongous head of the sculpture laid across the passage, making it unable to go between the Studio 1 and 2. A truck with crane came to lift the head at around 3 p.m. that day. Naruhodou gathers the information that the sculpture’s head got snapped off at 2:15 p.m. Ibukuro’s estimate time of death is 2:30 p.m.
Naruhodou goes to talk to Obachan again. She tells Naruhodou that Ibukuro used to be the most popular and successful star actor, only until 5 years ago, when the tragic accident happened. While he is listening to her story, the camera kid Kyuuta pops up at the studio. Naruhodou asks him if he had seen or noticed anything unusual on the day of the murder. Kyuuta replied that he had observed “everything” – he saw Tonosaman beat up the bad guy. Then Kyuuta abruptly leaves.
Naruhodou organizes the information he gathered. So, on that day of the murder, both Uzai and Himegami were working in the studio, but, they were unable to access the crime scene because the passage was shut down. Naruhodou can’t find any other information that he can use in the trial. Frustrated, he looks at the photo album that Kyuuta left behind the other day. Despite Kyuuta’s claim that he has compiled every single winning moment of Tonosaman battle, the last page of the album is not filled. Naruhodou decides to go see Kyuuta again to ask about the empty spot, and sets off to the studio once again, with Mayoi in toe. Naruhodou spots Kyuuta and asks for the reason why the winning photo from the day of the murder is missing from his album. Kyuuta confesses that he had to remove it. Piqued with this response, Naruhodou further interviews Kyuuta, and learns that, on the day of the murder, when Kyuuta approached Tonosaman to say something, Tonosaman struck an Akudaikaan pose for no obvious reason.
While listening to Kyuuta’s dialogue, Naruhodou realizes why Kyuuta had to remove the photo. The reason is because Tonosaman lost the battle. From this theory, Naruhodou deduces that someone else, possibly Ibukuro, was wearing the Tonosaman suit. In order to pretend to be the leg-injured Niboshi, the person was intentionally pulling one leg, acting. When Kyuuta surprised him by abruptly talking to him, the person, Ibukuro, struck a pose of Akudaikaan in reflex. Then later, Ibukuro was murdered in the Tonosaman suit… Kyuuta admits that he saw Tonosaman losing the battle that day, and confesses that he is holding onto one piece of the photo. When Naruhodou looks at the photo, he is taken aback with the unexpected discovery.
