There was a series of disappearances of visitors in Yokohama, and the agency received an anonymous tip on the victims’ location. Kunikida had an outlaw hacker, Rokuzou Taguchi, dig for the source of the tip, only to find some pictures of the abduction victims and a mysterious note that said “the Azure Messenger”. They called a cab driver who also serves as an informant at the same time, to get to the tipped location. The informant coincidentally had seen two of the victims. Dazai and Kunikida were tossing a unfruitful conversation as usual in the cab when they arrived at a suspicious abandoned hospital…
This episode mainly focused on Kunikida, who’s the most toilworn out of all in the agency.
A new character called Rokuzou Taguchi appeared as they started working on the series of abduction cases in Yokohama. Rokuzou Taguchi is named after a character from a novel “Haru no Tori/Spring Birds” written by Doppo Kunikida in real life. This character appears to have a deep connection with Kunikida. In the first half of the episode, we only learned that he was a cyber network warrior, or an outlaw hacker.
Moreover, one of the abductees saved by the agency is called Nobuko Suzuki, and she is named after the woman Kunikida, the author in real life, was married to only for five months. I find it really interesting to find all the names of the real authors’ involved parties and the characters of their works everywhere in the show.
One of the information Taguchi brought was a name of an organization, “the Azure Messenger”. It is deeply related to these abduction cases, and also related to someone named “the Azure King” from the past, apparently.
In the latter half of the show, we find out about Kunikida’s relationship with the Azure King, and later with Taguchi’s father. Kunikida discloses the surprising identity of the abductor.
When they got ambushed by the Port Mafia, Akutagawa appeared again. It’s been a while since the last battle scene by the ability users, and the battle between Akudagawa and Kunikida was short but looked amazing.
Akutagawa sounded like he was familiar with Dazai when he mentioned him at the battle scene, and it may be implicating that Dazai was somehow involved with Akutagawa when he was a member of the Port Mafia in the past. I’m very curious how their relationship gets unveiled in the future episodes.
This episode ends with a new client job offer incoming all of a sudden, to continue to the next episode. The client is the Azure Messenger, asking for disarming a bomb in the building where the Azure King blew himself up with a bomb in the past.
We got to see a part of Kunikida’s past, but not much about “the Azure Messenger” or “the Azure King” was revealed. It looks like they are deeply involved with the next episode. I wonder how they are related to each other. This episode leaves many questions and I’m looking forward to the show’s development in the next week.
