Atsushi was saved by Dazai from Akutagawa’s reach, but he starts blaming himself after learning that he now has a seven-billion-yen bounty on his head which got others of the agency involved and hurt. Kunikida also looks unusually unsettled, fearing “the worst case scenario”. Atsushi feels that he cannot trouble those who took care of him any more. He decides to leave the agency and makes a phone call to the fake client from the last episode, Higuchi of the Port Mafia, to tell her about it.
When Atsushi met the Port Mafia in the previous episode, Akutagawa revealed that “the target of the Port Mafia has always been Atushi alone as a weretiger with a bounty”. As he had always been pelted with scorns in the orphanage, he continues to blame himself for “causing trouble for the others around him”. Now that Tanizaki and Naomi also got hurt because of him, he decides that he should leave the agency not to trouble them any further.
Meanwhile, the Port Mafia’s military squad, “Kurotokage (the Black Lizard)”, broke into the agency in Atsushi’s absence. They are said to be the most violent and cruel squad, but the people at the agency easily defeat them without using any of their abilities.
The original idea of this military squad name “Kurotokage (Black Lizard)” came from a tragic novel written by Ryuurou Hirotsu. Hirotsu appears as the leader of this squad, and his ability “Ochitsubaki (Falling Camellia)” is also named after another work of his. A commander of the squad, Michizou Tachihara is named after a poet, but he is introduced without any ability. Another commander, Gin remains mysterious with nothing revealed other than the name. I would like to see them sometime in the show, though they were easily beaten up all too soon by the agency.
This episode went so fast and brief with no details of new characters or new abilities except for “Kurotokage (Black Lizard)”. It instead focused on the aspect of Atsushi’s negative side and how he denies his own existence.
In the beginning of this episode, Kunikida told Atsushi to “think of what he could do in advance to prepare for the worst case scenario”. Atsushi misinterpreted his advice and chose to leave the agency to avoid the worst case scenario. Kunikida, however, was trying to remind him of what he could do as a member of the agency. When Atsushi realized what Kunikida actually meant later, he started crying. It was somehow a heartbreaking moment.
I’m expecting Atsushi to play an active part as a true member of the agency in the near future.
Finally, a girl in kimono appeared with Akutagawa. The scene only had a brief conversation through prison bars, but I’m hyped up about how they are going to engage in the later development.
