An annual cultural festival at their high school is coming soon. Onsa declares, ‘We, the motorbike club are going to hold a race!’ While the club members think hard how to make it exciting, the principal Tazuko calls Raimu to show off her new motorbike. That triggers Tazuko to remember the time that she went to see motorbike races with Raimu. Several days after, Hijiri makes a suggestion to ‘ modifying their motorbikes’ for the race. What sort of ‘modification’ will they come up with?
The fun summer break is over at Okanoue High School, and fall has arrived.
As the cultural festival is happening soon, Onsa suggests holding a race as a part of an entertainment program from the club.
As for Raimu who is like a club guardian, the principal Tazuko brags about her brand-new motorbike.
Raimu is obviously older, but she is still a student. However, this principal goes on and on about the new bike that costs her a fortune in front of Raimu.
It is hilarious seeing so many dodgy adults in ‘Bakuon!!’, such as Rin’s and Onsa’s fathers, Butler Hayakawa, Ms. Saruyama and this principal.
According to the principal, she is bragging about her motorbike as revenge from the past.
Long ago, the members of the motorbike club went to see auto races. With her sharp eye, Raimu kept on getting big wins and ended up making a great amount of money.
She spent this winning money on the new Kawasaki model at the time, GPZ250R, which was known as the ugliest to the other club members.
She didn’t just purchase one, but a whole selection of this model in 35 different seat/body colors.
Tazuko had to stare at these stupid motorbikes lined up in front of their clubroom everyday as if she was being tortured.
By the way, this scene of reminiscence seems to be around 1984, based on the year of the release of Kawasaki motorbike as well as the portrait on the banknotes.
In the earlier episode, Rin’s license says the anime is set in 2011. So, Tazuko, a high school girl back then, is well into her 40s now.
She still looks young in the anime, but I’m sure she is about this old to be eligible for the principal. How come Raimu is still a high school girl?
Looking back on the past, Raimu was somehow legally purchasing betting tickets at the auto races. This makes everyone question how old Raimu is…but seriously, how old is she?
It’s not surprising if she was already a student when Okanoue High School was newly founded.
Anyway, Hijiri is in charge of the prep for the race at the cultural festival.
Tazuko, the principal approves this kind of race involving betting only if ‘Raimu Kawasaki is racing and you can bet on her in a single betting method’. This is a so not typical anime of high school girls.
So, getting ready for the coming race at the cultural festival, Hane, Onsa and Rin all work hard to modify their motorbikes.
As for Rin, she keeps the looks of her KATANA normal, but she is really happy with this amazing new feeling of her motorbike after attaching dubious parts, referred as ‘the occult’ by Onsa.
(In a way, Onsa is exactly the same. She uses dodgy engine oil that makes Onsa ‘the occult’ according to Rin.)
It’s kind of too late to change, but this anime bravely makes a fool of actual motorbikes and products, even though it is sponsored by big brands and manufacturers.
Following Raimu’s advice, Hane attempts to modify her motorbike. At the same time, Onsa’s father recommends Onsa a racing motorbike, a TZR250 3MA known as the ‘Sanma’.
He used to ride this in races when he was young. However, this model is known as the biggest failure in Yamaha history, and Onsa shows some reluctance.
Actually, the Sanma has transformed into a furious machine that has a crazy acceleration thanks to the advanced tuning technology.
Onsa feels its untold power and ensures that she will ‘rule the race’ with great excitement.
Hane, on the other hand, insists to stick to a ‘Safety first’ policy, and she keeps adding more and more indicators and mirrors…which seems totally more dangerous than ever.
