April 7 Unfortunate first day of high school
On the first day at the Tenno-Mifune High school, the teacher of the class 1-7 Ms. Kodaira tells the class including three girls, Hanako, Hibari and Botan, that they are carrying negative karma attracting misfortunes.
The class is plagued with bad karma, and their goal as a class is to bring ‘happiness’ into their life.
These three girls are confused and not quite with the teacher, but they are unexpectedly assigned homework already…!
On the first day at high school, Hibari hopes to begin an ordinary high school life. However, on the way to school, she happens to see Hanako hanging from a bridge while holding a puppy in her arms.
Hibari tries to rescue Hanako, but the fragile steel frame collapses and she falls into a river.
Hanako instantly throws the puppy high up for Hibari to safely catch it. Then, Hibari runs to the bottom of the bridge to see if Hanako is all right.
As soon as Hanako comes out of the river, they hear a school bell. They run to school together in a super hurry.
Contrary to Hibari’s wish for the safe and normal start of high school life, she ends up taking part in a crazy incident even before starting school. They are almost late for school on the first day.
After the entrance ceremony, they move to their classroom, 1-7.
Hanako, Hibari and Botan all sit close to each other having a conversation when the teacher comes into the classroom.
The teacher tells everyone in the class that they all carry bad karma and they will need to aim for happiness as the class 1-7.
After telling the shocking truth about them, Ms. Kodaira gives the students homework to be happier. The task is to take a raw egg home and bring it back to school again without cracking it.
Then, when it’s time to go home, Hibari has to go somewhere else, so Hanako and Botan go home together.
On the way home, they finds a cat stuck on a scarecrow in a rice paddy not being able to get down. Hanako tries to rescue the cat, but it quickly jumps off by stepping on Hanako’s head, as it spots a cracked egg that Botan drops by accident. The cat manages to get out of the rice paddy in the end.
So, the cat gets away from the rice paddy, but Hanako’s legs are now well stuck in there.
Neither Hanako nor Botan are able to move, and Hanako is almost prepared to spend a night out there with Botan. Luckily, Hibari walks by and saves both of them. They are now happily on their way home together.
As the friendship grows, Hanako and Botan find out Hibari’s secret; Hibari has feelings for a guy on a construction site sign.
Hibari is worried if her friends will judge her for that, but it turns out to be nothing. They don’t make a big fuss about it and just accept the fact.
Next day, Hanako is the only one who brings the egg back to school without cracking it. However, it hatches and a chick comes out of the egg.
So, as a result, everyone in the class 1-7 loses their eggs. Will they really achieve their goal to be happy?
Strong personalities of the characters
Even in this first Episode, the main character Hanako unfortunately gets into quite a lot of trouble. However, she is unbelievably positive saying ‘I’m not unfortunate at all.’…Maybe she is naturally like this or she lives in la-la land.
On the other hand, Hibari seems like a typical good student without anything standing out. During her junior high school, she was left out for being odd liking a guy on a construction site sign.
Botan is physically weak and gets fractures in her hand even by a small handshake. On top of that, she is very negative, totally opposite from Hanako. She is a daughter of a doctor, so she knows how to treat her own injuries. However, being so pessimistic, she calls herself ‘a one woman ward’.
I’m looking forward to seeing how the story rolls with all other interesting and weird characters! See you next time!
