Another episode of Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! kicks off our weekend this week! You might miss Darkness though, since she isn’t shown in this episode except for her silhouette and her armor. However, that doesn’t mean that the episode is any less comedic and fun! You’d be laughing out loud when you finish this episode!
The second episode starts off in a melancholic and sorrowful mood. Both Kazuma and Aqua are making a fuss because of their current situation. Remember that they got stripped of everything they have in the previous episode and are now deep in debt. When they are contemplating their situation with Megumin, especially about what would happen to Darkness, Sena barges in on them while yelling for Kazuma.
This episode focuses more on our beloved Crimson Girl, Megumin. Here are the episode highlights you should pay attention to in the second episode of KonoSuba 2.
It seems that Aqua’s brilliant plan to free Kazuma from the prison had dire consequences. The Giant Toads, the ones we got to see in the first episode of season 1, have awakened early from their hibernation and are now causing havoc. Kazuma and the gang are then called up to clean up after their mess. And just like always, Megumin and Aqua end up becoming toad food, requiring Kazuma to help them out. He was proud of the Snipe skill. Yes, he was able to hit the Giant Toad running after Aqua, but that doesn’t mean that he was able to kill it. Are they in a dire situation?!
Right when it seems that it’s the end for Aqua, Megumin, Kazuma, and even Sena, a new character pops out and helps them out, a girl that introduces herself as Yunyun. It seems that this new friend is the daughter of a Crimson Demon’s leader. She is also Megumin’s self-proclaimed rival! Megumin denies remembering who the girl is at first, though later she gives away that she does indeed remember Yunyun.
Being Megumin’s self-proclaimed rival, Yunyun immediately requests a duel. Of course, Megumin plainly turns her down immediately. After much persuasion, Megumin agrees to a duel. Who do you think will win this duel?! I’m betting on Megumin! And her win will be attributed to technically some foul plays!
Remember that Megumin got eaten by the Giant Toad earlier? Well, due to some petty reasons, Megumin gets her slime onto Kazuma as well. Slimily trudging themselves along the way, they arrive home with Kazuma commenting on how a hug can be so unpleasant. Megumin, on the other hand, was greeted by Chomusuke, the stray animal she picked up earlier in the episode. As she reached out her hand to the animal, the latter ran away due to her bad smell, which consequently shocked Megumin.
As Kazuma takes the first step to take a bath, Megumin stops him and asks him if he ever heard the saying ‘Ladies First’. To that, Kazuma replies that he advocates gender equality. This marks the epic battle on who gets to use the bath first! Will someone win this fight or is there a third option?!
As Aqua arrives home while Kazuma is bathing, he falls into a panic. He just knows it, that with how the epic bath battle ended up, Aqua will call him with a distasteful nickname. ‘Loli-NEET’ isn’t exactly the kind of nickname that anyone would want to have. And so, to prevent Aqua from getting into the bath, Kazuma uses all of his energy to cast the Freeze spell on the door – which is utterly a complete waste of power with how things unfolded right after.
Kazuma and the gang visit Wiz at her shop to know how he can take care of their debts. There, they found out that Yunyun was actually waiting for them. Again, she came to meet her rival. She and Megumin banter with each other, especially about how Yunyun never became friends with anyone while at the academy. Of course, Yunyun tries to prove that she did – which is moot since these friends aren’t what they seem to be from Kazuma and Aqua’s point of view.
While at Wiz’ Shop, please do take note of what is happening in the background. You will definitely get a good laugh!
Since their argument isn’t going anywhere, Aqua found an item in Wiz’s shop that may settle the score between Yunyun and Megumin – the Friendship Crystal. Pouring their magic into the crystal, Yunyun and Megumin’s past memories were projected. Kazuma, Aqua, and Wiz were all in disbelief with what they saw in these two girls’ memories.
Although we have already seen Yunyun in the first season’s opening song, she really didn’t appear in any of the episodes back then. If you don’t count her appearance in the OVA, this will be her first actual anime appearance.
This week’s episode of KonoSuba 2 makes use of the very common scenario of two childhood friends who see each other as rivals. Of course, one side will always be the hot-blooded type or the type to loudly declare that they see the other party as a rival. In this case, that would be Yunyun. For Megumin’s case, she deliberately doesn’t show that she treats Yunyun as a rival. She even goes as far as saying that she doesn’t remember the girl. At the end of the episode, we see that how she acts is totally opposite to what she is feeling.
I had a really good laugh watching this episode. Of course, there are some sexy undertones here and there which will actually make you think if this episode should be tagged as slightly ecchi. It isn’t anything that would make you want to keep this anime away from the children though!
In the next episode, I’m expecting them to go to a labyrinth simply because that’s what the next episode’s title says. To know if they really did go to a labyrinth or not, stay tuned with me here in MANGA.TOKYO! Also, don’t forget to check the rest of our episodic anime reviews!
NEXT TIME: Peace for the Master of This Labyrinth
