Hey, guys! Another episode of Haikyuu!! Karasuno Koukou vs Shiratorizawa Gakuen Koukou! is upon us! We are almost nearing the end of our Season 3 journey as this episode is the eighth one already. And as the season progresses, we are treated to some high-powered attacks, tactical strategies, and team spirit – all for the love of volleyball! Here’s my review of episode 8.
Japanese Original Episode Title: 嫌な男
The episode starts off with the Shiratorizawa team celebrating that one block Tendou did at the end of last week’s episode. After all, it seems that the said block decided the match. Of course, that isn’t the case and Karasuno just got more fired up to score a point.
In this fifth set, the two teams switched courts and Hinata came back to the front of the rotation. Narita, one of the second-year Karasuno members, was put on court to replace the injured Tsukishima. Kageyama was still on the bench, recovering his energy. Would everything go well for Karasuno despite missing some crucial members on the court?
There’s much to enjoy in this episode. Just like before, there are failures and successes in each team’s plays. Players panic and other players encourage. In this episode highlight, you’ll definitely want to see the next episode right after (but too bad, the next episode is still a week away!). Here are the episode highlights for Haikyuu!! Season 3 episode 8:
Highlight #1: Hinata’s Unusual Defense
When Ushijima spikes a ball to Karasuno’s court, Hinata is the one who is supposed to receive it. However, he isn’t in the right position to do a clean receive. The ball is coming straight to his face. At the last moment, Hinata turns his face to have his cheek receive the ball. All that to not only get the ball up in the air but also to avoid getting a nosebleed.
The team is surprised to hear that Hinata acted as he did in that split second. Not only the senpai-tachi from the Karasuno team, even Shiratorizawa (especially Ushijima) was shocked at Hinata’s defense.
Highlight #2: Synchro – Success!
If the synchronized attack from the previous episode got blocked off cleanly by Tendou, this time around is different. As Sugawara promised at the beginning of the episode, they carried out a synchro attack with all the members of the team and Nishinoya tossing. Tendou, who is actually the most formidable blocker of Shiratorizawa with his guess-blocking technique, got glued on the floor trying to figure out who will hit the toss. In the end, he isn’t able to block anyone and even got scolded by the coach.
Highlight #3: Kageyama – Back in Action
Kageyama is put back into the court after having rested enough. Kageyama is more than ecstatic to come back. He even tells Hinata to watch the back of his head (maybe to watch out for a powerful serve?).
Shiratorizawa was amazed at how amazing Kageyama’s serve is despite being tired. Moreover, Kageyama’s attack didn’t stop at just the serve. He also did a quick with Hinata that allowed them to score a point!
Highlight #4: Cheer Battle
If you think that only Shiratorizawa has a good cheering squad, then you have to think twice! Karasuno is coming together as well in their cheering! The people who came to support the Karasuno guys gave their all in cheering. However, it seems that cheering is more of Shiratorizawa’s forte!
Highlight #5: Hinata’s Soft Block
It can be said that Hinata did something amazing again in this episode. The cheers of Shiratorizawa is really firing up their members. In fact, Ushijima attacks again with his powerful spike. It seems that Karasuno won’t be able to get it!
Don’t lose hope, though! The blocks in front of the net may not do anything against the spike but Hinata is able to counter by doing a soft block from the back of the court. This is what allowed Karasuno to score a point off Ushijima’s spike!
Highlight #6: Are you okay?!
So, at the end of the episode, someone comes back on the court that lights up everyone’s faces. Hint: He’s from Karasuno! So, is he the savior the will stop Shiratorizawa from winning the fifth set and ultimately the whole game or will his comeback be in vain?
Although the next episode is entitled as Barē Baka-tachi (バレー馬鹿たち) and corresponds to the 186th chapter of the manga, the end of episode 8 corresponds to the 184th chapter. That doesn’t mean that the anime skips on the 185th chapter though. It will surely be incorporated in the next episode so look forward to it!
Oh, the agony! We’ll have to wait a week just so we can get more of our favorite sports anime!
Karasuno is clearly starting its counterattack. Although Shiratorizawa is clearly stronger and Karasuno is barely hanging on, that doesn’t mean that the latter don’t have any hope. With Karasuno’s persistence, teamwork, and spirit, they are able to keep the point gap from widening. They still have the hope of winning.
The ball hasn’t fallen yet! Wait for more updates on how the game goes here in Manga Tokyo! It should be worth waiting a week, right?
Don’t forget to read the rest of our episodic reviews!
