Tetsuo, having established a relationship with 50% of the school’s bi-monsters (yeah, the demis), gets an opportunity to interview another one: Kyoko Machi, also known as the dullachan. His sexy manliness overwhelms her, so her trusted friend and slightly annoying blabbermouth Hikari sets them up on some sort of date. What could possibly go wrong?
Machi-chan is being interviewed by Tetsuo, who doesn’t seem to be enjoying being next to the flaming headless body of a living woman. After a brief chat about the inconveniences of having to carry your head around all the time and how it tends to make people slightly uncomfortable –you don’t really need to interview someone headless to guess these facts- Machi-chan, who is gazing at Tetsuo’s robust, muscular arms (this description will not be going any further), rounds up all the courage she has and asks him to hold her head and… coddle it. As she asks, her bouncing hormones probably overflow and the harmless blue flames that decorate her neck look like an erupt volcano or, well, use your imagination.
Tetsuo agrees only to be caught in the act by the pre-mentioned annoying blabbermouth who almost pees her pants at the sight of this and her screaming-around almost costs him his job.
Machi-chan confesses her attraction to Tetsuo to Hikari, who once again, overly excited, makes some very filthy comments about her probably being able to do all sorts of sex tricks with her detached head. To be fair, this could be the scenario for some really interesting porn. Some awkward moments later, Hikari has already set up a date for the two of them, under the pretext of research and experimentation. Maybe she should go to art school. *sighs*
There is an obvious catch – Tetsuo only gets to go around carrying the head, while the rest of the fashionably dressed body will have to stay with Hikari. That said, I wouldn’t trust someone as sexually frustrated as Hikari with a cat, let alone my whole body. As the date goes on rather smoothly, the little vampire nutcase unexpectedly pinches Machi-chan breasts (yep, sexual frustration it is) and this (along with Hikari’s constant comments on Machi’s physique) allows us to appreciate the dullahan’s significant height and sizeable boobage. That was gonna happen sooner or later.
Before the episode finishes, we get a glimpse of the Succubus teacher, Sakie, gradually becoming infatuated with Tetsuo, not only because of his kindness and considerate manners, but also because of his massive muscular hands. You see, guys get to see boobs, and we get hands. Not that I’m complaining, just putting that out there.
Themes & Trivia
Dullachan: A popular imported monster in Japan after its appearance with Celty Sturluson in Durarara, dullahans are actually headless horse riders in Celtic mythology. By the way, that porn thing we talked about earlier, I googled it so you don’t have to, and the answer is… don’t expect much.
Coddle: Apart from pampering, the word also refers to an Irish dish.
Sakura: Sakura, or cherry blossoms, are Japan’s unofficial national flower, its petals falling on the first scene. Among other things, they symbolize hope.
Shy characters: Machi-chan – or should we call her Dullachan? – is a typical shy female character you can find in an abundance of anime series. Along with modesty and indirectness, shyness is one of these things that are deeply rooted in Japanese culture, more than in other Asian ones. A very well informed article on that can be found here.
I like this show. I think I am waiting for it to stop introducing the characters in order to get more into it. However, so far they are being approached with a certain naivete and sensitivity that renders them all adorable. Hikari may need a slap or two but she seems nice.
Hopefully, next time I watch this I won’t once again end up looking for porn. And neither will you.
